About Me

Footnote Research & Interpretation is owned and operated by me, Kristy von Moos. I am a historian and educational resource developer with ten years’ experience creating high quality digital projects for cultural institutions, researching and writing historical reports, and writing engaging content for many different audiences. I have a Master of Arts in Public History from Carleton University (Ottawa, ON), and am passionate about the preservation, teaching and display of Canada history.

Since 2005, I have worked with many different museums, cultural institutions, and government departments, as an employee of a digital cultural resource firm and as an independent contractor and collaborator with other research firms.

Experience

I started my career at the Canada Science and Technology Museum, researching and writing web-stories for youth. My focus was on bringing an amazing photo archive from CN Rail to life.

CSTM hired the cultural media and virtual exhibit company Idéeclic to develop the digital portion of the project, and I worked closely with their team. I helped with design ideas, structure and functionality definition. The result was two successful virtual exhibits complimented by lesson plans and activities - and a job offer!

Idéeclic hired me as a researcher, writer, project manager and team liaison. I coordinated content structures for virtual exhibits, worked with the team to develop concepts and storyboards, researched and wrote educational games, activities and virtual exhibition content. I oversaw content integration and management, including basic XML and HTML. I was also responsible for planning, organizing and animating focus groups and testing/quality control.

In 2014, I started working as a contractor, primarily for the historical services firm Know History. I worked on cultural, archival and historical research, writing, oral history transcription, and business development. I managed client relationships and delivered detailed reports. In addition, I was in charge of testing and populating a Collection Management tool, and vetting over 400 images and related metadata.

I am happy to say that I maintain very positive working partnerships with all three above mentioned employers, and I continue to work with them on a number of interesting projects.
